Hybrid Lecture by by Guido Convents: African cinema and the decolonisation of african culture by Africans
For African intellectuals, achieving true independence involved not only political autonomy but also cultural sovereignty. Amilcar Cabral emphasized that cultural liberation was essential for meaningful political independence, highlighting the need to reclaim narratives from Western media, particularly cinema. During this lecture we talk about the new wave of African filmmakers and the cinematic movement that emphasize our views to build a more respectful and dignified global citizenship. At the end of the lecture Guido Convents will show us a film (which can only be seen if you join the live instead of online).
